Northern Flicker

Back from two weeks in Costa Rica, 45 degrees was really chilly, but at least the sun was out.  Lots of birds were also enjoying the sun in the Yuma Territorial Prison park. This Northern Flicker let me approach fairly closely before flying off.  On the lawn were good numbers of Abert's Towhees and White-crowned Sparrows.
Cactus Wrens were calling in the Yuma Territorial Prison Park, as were many other birds.

Anna's Hummingbird

Numerous Yellow-rumped Warblers and Anna's Hummingbirds, and lesser numbers of Orange-crowned Warblers were making good use of  the park's several Eucalyptus Trees.

Yuma's Gateway Park sits between the Yuma Crossing Park and the Territorial Prison, and provides another nice location to search for birds along the Colorado River.

White-crowned Sparrow
South of Yuma I checked out Pat's bird sanctuary again, and found lots of feathered life.  Sparrows included White-crowned, Chipping, Brewer's, and a single Lincoln's.

Both Costa's and Anna's Hummingbirds were taking advantage of the fairy duster and other flowering shrubs.  In a nearby hedgerow a Sharp-shinned Hawk was flushed by an American Kestrel.

On the way back to town I stopped at a newly-planted alfalfa field and scanned through the dozens of pipits. I almost got a fine photo of a Ferruginous Hawk, but it flew away at the last minute.
