Ladder-backed
Woodpeckers are fairly common permanent residents in the deserts of the extreme
southwest. They have a peek call similar to Downy/Hairy
Woodpeckers. They look very similar to Nuttall's Woodpecker,
but are not found in the mountains or west of the Laguna
Mountains. Look for Ladder-backeds in the wooded areas around
Mittry Lake, like Betty's Kitchen.
